Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is critical when you are recovering from an orthopedic injury, condition, or after surgery. It can help you heal faster, lessen your pain, and restore function to your musculoskeletal system. In some cases, PT can help you avoid surgery altogether!
For the convenience of our patients at Advanced Sports Medicine Center, we offer on-site physical therapy, right here at your orthopedic doctor’s office. PT is performed under the guidance of our director of physical therapy, Conrad Penner. Conrad and athletic trainer James Duryea will work with you to evaluate your current abilities and develop a customized rehabilitation plan designed to meet your goals.

Orthopedic physical therapy focuses on restoring the function of injured muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments. Whether the damage was caused by a disease, sports injury, on-the-job accident, slip and fall, auto accidence, repetitive stress, or other reason, our aim is the same: to relieve your pain and improve your strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
Physical Therapy After a Joint Replacement
Knee, shoulder, and hip replacements are among the most common surgeries in the nation. Altogether, these surgical procedures are performed more than a million times each year. That number is only expected to grow into the foreseeable future. In each of these cases, patients who want to achieve the best possible results after their joint replacement will need to undergo some type of physical therapy program.
PT is performed using a variety of therapeutic approaches, including exercise, hands-on manual therapy, massage, electrical stimulation, cold and heat therapy, and more. Physical therapy that is progressively more challenging during a patient’s recovery can help ease pain, swelling, and stiffness and gradually return you to your normal activities.
In fact, even those who have not undergone a joint replacement therapy may benefit from physical therapy. For those with joint pain due to arthritis, for example, PT can improve the condition so much, their lives will no longer be restricted by joint pain. It may even make surgery unnecessary.
